Most Bengal tigers live in India. Some range through Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Myanmar.

How Many Are There?
The wild population is about 3,250-4,700 tigers, with about 330 captive tigers, mostly in zoos in India. One hundred years ago, there may have been as many as 40,000 Bengal tigers.

How Big Are Bengal Tigers?
Male Bengals average 2.9 meters (9 1/2 feet) from head to tail
Male Bengal tigers weigh about 220 kilograms (480 pounds).
Female Bengals are smaller, are about 2.5 meters (8 feet) in length.
Female Bengals weigh about 140 kilograms (300 pounds).
