Summer Internship, Moose Research

The intern will help to conduct research on moose at the zoo as part of a larger effort to determine how moose are impacted by rising temperatures in Minnesota. The focus of the intern’s position will be to determine how moose lower their body temperatures during summer.
This position is primarily office-based, but will also require management of equipment within and near zoo exhibits. This position requires organizational skills and a great deal of independence. Interns will receive training from the Moose Project Specialist and will coordinate with other zoo staff. Duties may include but are not limited to:
- Setting-up, monitoring, and managing project equipment within and near zoo exhibits.
- Modifying moose exhibits and holding areas; requiring moderate physical labor.
- Viewing moose and/or video of moose while recording their activities.
- Entry, management, and preliminary analysis of data.
The position will require a May or June start-date. A May start-date is preferred. The position will last 2-3 months with 15-30 hours of work per week. Internships are unpaid and no housing or transportation is provided.
Intern applicants should be motivated undergraduate or graduate students pursuing a degree in conservation biology or a related field.
