Minnesota Zoo to Host Traveling Dr. Seuss Exhibit
Apple Valley, MINN – March 2, 2011 – n hornor of Dr. Seuss's birthday, today, March 2, the Minnesota Zoo is pleased to announce it will be the exclusive Minnesota home to a bronze sculpture display of the most famous characters created by Dr. Seuss. As part of Dr. Seuss is on the Loose May 14 – July 4, 2011, families will come face-to-face with The Cat in the Hat, The Grinch, Sam I Am from Green Eggs and Ham, Yertle the Turtle and the Lorax (Dr. Seuss's groundbreaking environmental book). The creation of the Dr. Seuss bronze collection marks the first time large-scale bronze sculptures based upon Dr. Seuss's work have ever been made available for public exhibition. Dr. Seuss is on the Loose will also feature a scavenger hunt throughout the Zoo, colorful character cut-outs, Dr. Seuss story time, fun facts and a special appearance by The Cat in the Hat. Theodor Seuss Geisel (a.k.a. Dr. Seuss) wrote forty-four books between 1937 and 1990, changing the way generations of children learned to read. While his best known legacy is in children's literacy, his artistic legacy continues to cross over generations and genres impacting the worlds of art, literature, pop, and high culture. Dr. Seuss is on the Loose at the Minnesota Zoo provides an opportunity for the public to enjoy the life principles and nostalgic memories connected with Dr. Seuss's most beloved books and characters and is made possible with support from Target and Think Mutual Bank.
